Dear Blog,

To state the obvious would be by saying that the blog hasn't been exactly up to date lately. To that, I apologize profusely. But something so Astounding, Amazing, Remarkable, Marvelous and Miraculous occurred that it is enough to put down procrastinating habits. Yes, i'm aware those five words carry similar meanings. Yet, the enormous state of the news deserves the repetitive grammar.

I bring great joy and pride to announce that on the 25th of November 2011, Taylors Dance Club received the Hallmark Event Of the Year Award at the ECA recognition award ceremony. Out of the six awards presented that evening, Taylor's Dance Club was recognize for holding the best event of the year namely Production 2: Dancing Through Time. With an approximate profit of Eight thousand ringgit and a gathering of 1000 individuals, TDC is identified as a force to be reckon with.

Now every time we catch a glimpse of the trophy standing majestically on the studio shelf, we will lose ourselves in a massive fantasy. Throw us back into the days where we've dance till dislocated bones and dehydration meant nothing. And although the Best Club of the year went to W.A.C.K.Y club, it occurred to most of us that this will be our official stepping stone; Our bench mark to do better. Taylor's Dance Club did not leave the ceremony with the impression that we lost but as a strong competitor. This blog post will be the official prophecy to the saying: What doesn't kill you will make you best club of Next year.

Production II: Dancing Through Time

Dance: A form of art. The rhythmic movement of the body on stage is like the fine paint brush on the canvas paper, and the music -our buncho.

Dance is non-verbal communication that can only be described as a universal language. A language with different dialects, is like a dance with different styles. After the success of 'Rock The Stance: A dance production' that was held at the beginning of the year, Taylor's Dance Club Subang Jaya hereby presents Production II: Dancing Through Time. A twist in production two that not only showcases eight styles but in accordance to the time line history of the dance itself.

As the clock struck Eight, the theater doors closed and the lights went off. The opening act took the stage with all eight styles compiled into one performance. All styles performing to Mr.brightside-The killers (violin cover) not only wooed the audience with a teaser but manage to pull off a classical song to the hippest street dance.

After the inspiring speeches given by the club counselor, special guests and the president of the dance club, the emcee enthusiastically presented the first style performing that night- contemporary. Contemporary was inspired in the year 1900s using dance techniques such as ballet and modern dance, drawing movements from outside the realm of classical techniques to suit its style. They presented a piece using Roxanne-The Police as their lure of entertainment.

Known for its sensual hip action and sexy flair, Latin dance ruled the stage next with its energetic and sassy movements. Out of the five dance styles Latin consist of, the dancers presented three, namely the cha-cha, jive and samba. Fast paced and jitterbug steps sends the crowd applauding for more. The latin partners danced in closed, tight position that makes the environment sultry and physical, making it an entertaining breathtaking performance.

In Popping the dancers showcased their amazing body control and isolation skills as they popped and locked their way back to 1970s feel. In their neatly pressed smart formal wear and the casual fedora, the quick contracting and relaxing muscles brought back the funky style that even Michael Jackson can't master.

The dancers then proceeded to show gravity who's boss in B-Boy. They pulled off spectacular moves that shouldn't be possible, all while showing off their 'tude and rocking to the beat. The boys were also joined by an equally impressive B-Girl, Camilyn. Synchronity is hard to achieve when you're upside down and spinning, but somehow they managed to pull it all off with flair.

As the stage lights flipped on for Hip Hop, the dancers strutted forward and got their funk on. It is an energetic form of dancing that allows the performers to dance with freedom of movement ,adding their own personality.

After a short intermission, whereby guests was served with refreshments and sweets, sexy ladies in turquoise and black burst into action in Girlstyle. At times sensual and at other energetic, they thoroughly displayed the might of girl power as they transitioned from song to song.

Then, in perhaps the most ball-sy performance yet, Christie De La Santo appeared on stage by herself and wow-ed the audience with a Belly Dance drum solo. Isolating and shimmying different parts of her body in time with the music, she entertained the audience with her intestinal fortitude and grace.

Then to add an international twist to the event, TDC presented a Kpop piece. The costume changes were numerous, the moves sharp and sexy or cute and sweet. The piece ended with a bang when the seniors took the stage in costumes so hot you could have fried an egg just being in their presence. They danced to the song 'Dr Feel Good' and managed to evoke enthusiastic response from the audience. Very enthusiastic response.

Last but not least LA Style hit the stage, the brother of hip hop that is more lyrically based. Choreographer Mark and Li Yon combined sweat and blood producing a fresh piece compromising sharp fast movements and emotions to relate to the 21st century. As the last step came to an end with "Go Hard or Go Home", performers of all pieces hit the stage once again to perform the finale piece 'On the floor' by JLO, choreographed by Alexander Osborne.

Approximately 70 over dancers stood on stage that night and wallowed in the pride and glory of performing, but nothing compares to the inner achievement of being apart of Taylor's dance club's biggest event of the year. Part of the profit earned through production was donated to the Living Hope Organization in TDC's honor. The impact of Production II had its desired effect, leaving everyone with a hope of improvement and self satisfactory.

How Do I Get a Ticket?
Tickets for both nights can be obtained from booths by the Subang Campus main gate. Or from our main ticketers, Su Jane in CPU(0173436385) and Yi Xian in A-levels(0168847266).

Their prices are as follows :
First 50 tickets = RM10 *edit: These are sold out!*
Early Bird (before event) = RM15
Door Prices = RM20

NOTE: Booking of tickets are not allowed, due to past experiences where people who book the tickets do not show for the event. If you are nearby the Subang vicinity; do stop by the campus to get yourself a ticket! If not:

Get your friends to buy one for you ahead of the event.
We may set up booths at different colleges if there is the demand, so let us know how we can pass a ticket to you!

Canadian Pre-University Prom

It was on the 17th June 2011, a typical Friday night. But all it took was one step into the Empire Hotel Ball room to know instinctively that there is nothing going to be typical about this night. The ballroom extended to the back where the well-lit elevated area, what we call a 'stage' stood wholesomely. Beyond the stage was approximately 70 tables with 10 seats each. Each covered with fancy glasswares and colour lights transitioning from the ceiling. The setting made one goal clear for all performers that night - to bring the house down.When the clock stroked 8.30pm, our time was up. Even with chaos happening in the neighboring ballroom with all their fancy lipton tea and food we can't pronounce, it doesn't take a pin drop silence moment to hear hearts beating like a wood pecker on drugs. We were like Cinderella. But instead of leaving the ball dramatically, we are entering it? x) The dancers left the performers room and felt the plush environment nearing. Three words comes to mind: Lights. Camera. Action.

Firstly, I'd like to say that the standards were set very high for this audition, and the majority of you did well. Please bear in mind it was not easy, and we had to make very tough decisions. Those who we felt did well on that day, but still can do MUCH MUCH better were called back to see if that was really your limit or you could do better.

RE:Production At It's Finest.

As announced by ex-President of TDC, Mark Chua, during the party, TDC's next move will be heading towards one of the biggest projects of year, RE: Production, or Production II. This has been done before in early 2011 and once again will happen hopefully at the end of July 2011.

What Is Production?!

Production put into simple words would be the combination of the main styles that TDC has to offer into one big performance. It is a big project and will require a lot of commitment from members. With that having said, anyone is allowed to perform as long as they are committed to the project and have some degree of skill, though not something too advanced. This would be TDC's second production in its history. The first one, Rock The Stance, performed at the beginning of the year, demonstrated 7 styles. Popping, Bboy, Girlstyle, Contemporary, K-Pop, LA- Style, and Hip Hop. It would be a great honor to represent TDC for a performance of such.

So What's New In Repro- uhh.. Production II?

For Production II, a new style will be included into the performance; Latin. Also, unlike before, TDC has never had such large numbers of dancers still participating in the club. Therefore, unlike before, auditions will be held for each style. Each dancer is encouraged to take a maximum of only 3 styles from the 8. The cap number of dancers for production is 50.

Machi is organizing a Hip-Hop class this upcoming Friday, 20th May from 3-4pm. It is a compulsory class for those interested in joining Hip-Hop for Production II. You MUST come if you want to perform Hip-Hop for Production II. There is no audition for hip-hop, but Machi will be selecting those most suitable for his piece to stand in front during this hour.

The judges wish to stress that joining B-Boy for production is going to be tough. The judges expect commitment and constant training. They won't go easy on you during auditions and if you don't make it, no hard feelings.

That was un-needed but since now that I have your undivided attention... :)

Based on the abstract above, Taylor's Dance Club members gathered in Lecture Theatre One on the 28th of April 2011 for the March Intake's Annual General Meeting.

THE MULTITUDES.

It started off with Mark's introduction to the club, naming all the seniors and the committee members. It was then trailed off to the types of styles we perform in TDC. As shocking as news that Obama wasn't invited to Prince William's Wedding, TDC has seven styles.

Later on, the new members were exposed to the one and only TDC's blog, facebook group and class schedule. After TDC's proud moment was over, Mark stood tall and announced his new successor. A pre-meeting was conducted before the AGM was held, it was between the old and current committee regarding who should take on the role as the face of TDC. The votes were in and everyone waited patiently for the results.

SUSPENSE.

Mark attempted to give a build-up-inspiring-speech before the declaration of the new president as Machi held the probational vice president's hands for 'support'. And the moment of truth came, the title of "President" was given to Shane Lee and our new appointed Vice President is Daren Boey.

Lastly, "Shrug" and "Triple Dot Crew" were demolished. Gone. Deleted. *Moment of silence for the crews that allowed to us to meet new friends and gained experience from our respective crew members* INSTEAD, new crews were formed in accordance to the presence of our new members. Give round of applause to the new crews that will roam taylor's college, namely 'Swag' and "Dopamine" (spelling is yet to be confirmed).

But strictly, DO NOT ENTER, as the Yoga club will be having their weekly classes there. Just wait, there should be dancers hanging around outside, so approach them.

The agenda for this meeting would be mainly to show you what what TDC is about, to show you what the TDC Spirit is (: Be there, you wouldn't want to miss it!

Taylor's Business Alumni Night

On the 8th of April, the dancers from Taylor's Dance Club Subang Jaya blew the audience away...

For those who fancy details, I proudly announce that the dancers were engage in a performance held in Taylor's Lakeside University. Mundane questions of conflict rose the day before the performance itself such as who? what? when? and where are we performing? All in time, everything fell into place. On the performance day itself, the "car-less" gang gathered at the ECA building at 3.30pm or 5.30pm to take a bus to Lakside. In short, no one was left behind.

Shrug Crew performed first, a performance which overwhelmed the crowd's mind, to the extent of them forgetting their own names, and left Shrugging in awe.

There is many views to this story, but it was best remembered as the performance that caused the heavens to tear. If you didn't get the sarcasm, it rained. As the drama world puts it, The show must go on! Hence, everyone strutted their stuff to the max and in the end the minor mistakes weren't even registered.

After what seems like a obscene amount of time that passed, 3DC stood before the crowd where Shrug has stained it with their victory sweat and continued the second half of 'awesome'. There was some technical difficulties. But due to my extent on electrical knowledge there wont be any elaboration on this :) Bottom line? It went well.

In conclusion, there isn't any better way to put what has happened that night, then to say -->

Flash Mob At The Pavilion, KL

CHEVROLET FLASH MOB!

TDC goes flashing! Approximately 200 dancers, which TDC dominated at least 70% of the people, took part in this Chevrolet promoting event. The location set at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur after the F1 display by DavidCoulthard, on Sunday, 3^rd April. Two practices were organized for the event at The Royal Phantom Studio, The Strand, Kota Damansara. Practices were conducted by Fellest.

Friday, 1st April, 8pm - 12am

Saturday, 2nd April, 4pm - 8pm

There, dancers were given a full briefing on how the whole flash mob was going to be conducted. Dancers were split in to 3 groups, A, B, and C. Group A would start outside and proceed inside to meet Group B and join in their dance. After the joint performance of A and B, dancers would point directly at the floors above where group C had made their way and began dancing. The 3 groups would then

dance and finally join together for one final, “CHEVROLET!”

Shhh!! We're trying to act "normal".

The TDC flashers met up for a bite at KL Central before heading out to the Pavilion by monorail. The event briefing took place at 2pm – 3pm and the flash mob began at 5pm. Each member received a yellow cap and a white collar T with the Chevrolet logo. Dancers were also told to bring a jacket along to conceal their uniformity of their shirts and caps. Right before the performance began, everyone stood by and dispersed around and all acted along well as how a real flash mob would be. The display was a success and it brought joy to the dancers as well as the audience.

Chan Jun Ian, one of our eldest seniors of Taylor’s Dance Club was scheduled to leave for Ohio on the 20^thof March. Ian was one of the many people who was involved in the expansion of TDC. He’s a very prominent figure in the history of TDC, as he was the one who “made things happen”.

Before he left, he thought it would be appropriate to pass as much of his knowledge as possible to the new generation of juniors. He had a total of 4 classes, each class lasting up to 3 hours long, his first class commenced on the 14th of March. Amongst the many useful things that he taught, was the waltz, basics in choreographing, as well as a guide to free styling.

On Monday; the first class, he gave us tips on choreography, mainly tips on creating and editing formations, so that the audience could see the shapes that were intended, rather than just a jumbled mess of limbs and colours.

After the choreography session, he gave us a basic lesson on waltz, which both Juniors and Seniors had fun, seeing that not many of them have ever partnered with someone to dance before.

On the second and third class, Tuesday and Wednesday, Ian’s lesson for us was free styling. The main things he taught was to diversify our moves, adding shapes, height changes as well as crowd interaction. Basically training us to be head turners when we dance.

On Thursday, he was cleaning up our freestyle, giving us moves to add into our usual repertoire to add a spark of life. After a short free style session, we were thrown into a Dance Battle, which was severely imbalanced; with nearly 3 quarters of the participants against the rest. It was extremely fun nonetheless.

After going all out during the dance battle, the waltz was a marvelous idea to cool the body down. Ian brought his friend, Melody to teach us the advanced bit of Waltz. We then paired up again, and danced while Melissa gave us instructions on body posture, hand positions and such.

Thank you Ian for everything. We will miss you as you venture into Ohio and make your mark there!

Performance: SAM Fiesta 2011

The combined force of Shrug, Triple Dot Crew, and the LSMO Crew engulfed the whole event in an unimaginable flame of wonder and excitement. A very well transitioned routine of dance styles were displayed successfully and succeeded in capturing the hearts of the attendees of SAM Fiesta. Great showmanship was displayed from both Junior Crews and each went on supporting one another during their performances after long hours of exhaustion and practice for the event itself. Everyone has shown what TDC is made of, be it Junior or Senior, everyone was simply amazing.

SAM Fiesta began with Triple Dot Crew’s (3DC) mind-blowing opening act, which consisted of belly dancing, urban, contemporary and b-boy. The performance drove the crowd mad with awe and the feeling of great anticipation of what Taylor's Dance Club had to give next.

To follow with this speechlessness (…), Shrug, the second junior crew, displayed a combination of uncertainty and “shrugging”. The performance was second to none as 60 more junior members took to the stage, opening with a well-choreographed popping routine.

To wrap up the package and add icing on the cake, the Seniors of TDC performed and captured more hearts, smiles, and winks of the audience, marking the opening of the dance floor for the night.

With that, concludes how TDC performed successfully at SAMFiesta 2011. Congratulations to everyone on this great achievement, especially to TDC’s new members from SHRUG and 3DC!

As of last Friday, our trial classes have come to an end. We hope that everyone had a good chance to try and experience all the styles of dance that TDC has to offer. Following that, a more permanent class schedule is currently being formed, that will most probably take effect after SAM Fiesta.

Performance: CALebration

Definitely one of the most anticipated Taylor's College Subang Jaya parties of the year. The other performances that night were incredible; however, no party is *really* complete without TDC present and performing!

Just as the crowd started to simmer down, all the TDC seniors took the stage, performing two pieces. The first, a sick combination of contemporary and b-boy; and the second? TDC's very own; SOML Crew - performing to the best songs of the decade!

Rock the Stance : A Dance Production

With a long string of successful events under its belt, the Taylor’s Dance Club Subang Jaya pulled of yet another entertaining night in the form of a dance production. Aptly named ‘Rock the Stance’, the aim of the event was to showcase seven forms of street dance with the exception of Contemporary.

The event started off with a performance by the resident campus crew, SOML to get the crowd cheering. The Popping team in vests and slacks soon made their way on stage in an animated fashion. Using clever bits of choreography, the group of gentlemen showed of some fundamental Boogaloo and Animation styles of Popping.

Next up was Girl Style with a cheeky slant. Hippy like clothing added to the overall charm of the girl dancers. Touted as the most popular dance style in college, the Bboy crew followed up with what is commercially known as break dancing. While the opening was amusing, the Bboys shed that image for that of confidence and style. A couple of aggressive foot work and stunts later, the breakers trooped of stage without even breaking sweat.

Moments later, K-Pop or Korean Pop was brought to life on stage with well known routines seen on television. The entire group dressed in suede black and towering heels pulled of an energetic and robust performance with at least twenty songs in the mix. Judging from the reaction of the audience, the influence of the Korean entertainment industry was not to be taken lightly. An interview with the choreographer Iylia, proved that point as she was not only self taught with the aid of Youtube, she managed to pick up the Korean language along the way.

And what would street dance be without Hip Hop? The dance sequence proved that Hip Hop is indeed still alive with new and old influences thrown in. The choreographer, Machi even took the opportunity to showcase Locking, an upbeat and funky dance style rarely performed nowadays. While Hip Hop was cool and loose, Contemporary was a pool of emotions and sweeping movements. The dancers pranced in joy and wept in sorrow as the crowd soaked it all up.

Last but not least, was Los Angeles (LA) style, a modern form of hip hop that has sharper movements and is lyrically based. A total of 4 choreographers produced 3 pieces that differed entirely in content. Each borrowed movements from Hip Hop and Jazz but delivered well in terms of musicality. As a final act, every dancer gathered on stage ala High School Musical to groove along and show appreciation to anyone that made the event a success.

Dance was of course the main core of the event, but little things like the introductory videos at the start of each performance brought more of an educational approach to the audience. With just 29 dancers and the desire to spread dance culture, the Taylor’s Dance Club not only rocked the stance but also the hearts of parents, lecturers and friends alike.

Firstly, thank you all of you for joining TDC and attending our AGM. Here are some quick updates to serve as a reminder for all those present, or all those who weren’t able to make it today!

General Studio Days
The studio is open from 9-6pm from Mondays to Fridays, with the exception of 4-6pm on Thursday - Yoga classes take place then. Peak studio hours are from 2-6pm, where most of the seniors will be in. If you don’t see us in the studio, then its your luck - you get the whole studio to yourself. The studio is open to everyone, so don’t hesitate to step in!

Classes
We showed you sample videos of each of the dance styles we currently have in TDC. The permanent class schedule and details will be up very soon *based on your votes!*, and we do hope to see you guys there. We do currently have trial classes that are going on for the next two weeks. Check this out under the Classes section.

Today, everyone was sorted out into two clean crews, TDC’s very own Triple Dot Crew and the SHRUG Crew. Both crews are equally as talented, and we hope to see both crews continue to perform and grow together. Us mentors are always glad to help, so do not hesitate to contact us if anything! We hope everyone had a fantastic Chinese New Year break. We at TDC are now back, fully rested, and ready to get straight back into business, beginning with our Annual General Meeting of the year 2011!

Everyone is welcome *and encouraged!* to attend this meeting, from new members, to interested non-members wanting to sign up, and of course, ALL existing members of TDC. We will be introducing all new members to the inner-workings of our club and many important matters shall be discussed to bring our club into full swing again.

Posters have been posted in strategic locations around Taylor's Subang, but just in case you missed it, here it is!

Upcoming: 2-Day Ballroom Dance Course

Ever had the chance to learn from a world-class master of ballroom dancing? Here's an opportunity to learn the Viennese Waltz and nine other dance styles from Reinhard Polt, a genuine Austrian professional. Think of how good you'll look on the dance floor at prom this year. Better yet, at all your future proms as well!

If you're interested, you can even sign up with Mr. Polt to represent Malaysia at the glitzy Viennese Opera Ball in March 2011.

The course is 10 hours, spread over 2 days and will be conducted this weekend - 17th and 18th April, as Mr. Polt is returning to Europe on 25th April.

Cost - For more than 30 participants, fees will be only RM100 per person. However, if there are only 20 or so participants, fees will be RM150 per person. So what are you waiting for? 10 dance styles at such an affordable price. Call your friends, your family even! The more people, the cheaper it is.

We showed you all videos of Breaking, Popping, Hip Hop, Latin, Jazz, Contemporary and Ballroom. You voted for Hip Hop and Contemporary as the two styles you want to see brought to campus. So now we're going to try and contact a few instructors and see if we can work something out. Stay tuned!

Short Classes
Throughout the month of February, we're going to have a series of member-taught short classes that are absolutely free. Everyone is welcome to come for these sessions and what we're hoping to achieve is give you all the chance to discover new interests and learn a little foundations with no cost and no pressure.

Crew Training Program
For those of you who couldn't make it, the program works like this. We're going to split you all up into crews, and each crew will be assigned a dance club senior as your advisor. The program will run until April or May, and in that time you will train and perform together with your crew mates.

Now we said we'd tell you on the blog when and where the first session's going to be:
Tuesday (9/2), 3:15 - 4:45 at the Taylor's ECA Center Dance Studio
(if you don't know where this is, it's on the 2nd floor opposite main campus; above the international office).

What can you expect? Well, we're going to sort you into groups, assign you a senior, and maybe start on some training. Once again, this session is open to anyone who's interested.

This ECA Day the Taylor's Dance Club collected 336 registrations from you amazing people. Now, probably the most practical way for us to keep in touch with all of you is by email.

However, we've had a bunch of problems with our gmail client (and also with your handwriting) and it seems we've only been able to reach about 200++ of you by email.

Obviously this is less than ideal, so we're going to try to come up with a way to improve on this whole email mess by the AGM on Friday.

In the meantime, please remind your friends who are interested about this AGM as they might not have gotten the notifications.

However, our solution probably won't be perfect and some of you might still be left out. So apart from keeping an eye out for our posters around campus, we strongly encourage all members to regularly check this blog.

It does get news out faster than the posters or the emails, after all.

Thank you guys for all your support during the ECA Drive Day. The Taylor's Dance Club has almost 350 new members this year!

A lot of you have been asking about classes, events, and such. We said we'd tell you all you needed to know at the first general meeting! Well, here are the details:

Time: 4.00pm to 5.00pm

Please try to make it on time, but if you have to be late due to class or things just come anyway.

Performing/competing in a crew is a big part of being a dancer - members of the Dance Club last year performed and competed in many many events throughout the year. We hope that all of you will get the chance to experience this too!

As mentioned in the previous post, the Taylor's Dance Club surprised the students of Taylor's Main Campus with a flashmob on the 13th of January, at 8 in the morning!

With our full crew of dancers performing, there were 20 people performing, for the first TDC performance for the year! This flashmob came out of 2 weeks of practice, in a not-as-big-as-we'd-like-it-to-be studio, and turned out pretty well!

Blog died for awhile there, so sorry about that!

The Taylor's Dance Club hasn't stopped its activities though! We're a very active club and have been performing throughout December and January, including a few at the Taylor's Lakeside Campus and a flashmob at the Main Campus on the 13th of January, the day after A-Level orientation, to show the new intakes that college life isn't all about studies! :)

To the new students, welcome to Taylor's University College! To the returning students, welcome back!

ECA Day is next Tuesday, on the 26th of January. All the different clubs in Taylor's Main Campus will have booths for you to sign yourselves up. Look out for the Dance Club's booth!

There you can sign yourself up for club activities, classes; and maybe you would even like to join us for performances? Speaking of that, there will be a performance by the Dance Club on the day as well, so, make sure you get a place in the crowd where you'll see our crew of dancers performing, they will not disappoint.

The SAM Corroboree was held at the Sunway Resort Hotel on the 18th of November in one of the grand ballrooms. The place was really big, and very nicely lit. When the crew stepped into the ballroom for the first time, we went, "Oh, wow." When we saw the place all filled up and full of people though, it became, "Oh, no."

Nerves were high in the dressing room backstage where we got ready for the performance and were warming up! Finally, Salgado got called up. Time for the show!

It went really well, in my opinion! This was our biggest performance for the year; as in biggest crowd, longest performance, biggest crew (17 people). Also, this was the first time Jake, our newest member, performed with us!

The emcees came back on stage after the performance, and the crew left to celebrate in MOS. :)

Update: Dance Arena 09: Euphoria Freebies

Here's an interesting fact that makes another great reason to go for Dance Arena.

Last year's Dance Arena introduced the Ministry of Sound's Euphoria @ Sunway Lagoon Resort to the college scene and birthed an entire generation of clubbers, giving out 400 free passes to check out Guest DJ Jungle Jerry spin at the club that night.

This year's Dance Arena is going to go one better.

This year, every single guest to Dance Arena 09: Best of the Best will receive not one but two passes to the nation's most happening nightspot.

One for Saturday, the 22nd of August, so that the party will go on after the event ends.

Based on your feedback, we've decided to do away with auditions and let everybody straight into the finals!

Because apparently some people can practice for hours every day yet can't find the time to do a one minute shot. You know who you are.

So anyway, the rules of the game have changed.

Participant age: Below 23 years
Crew members: 1-8
Registration fee: RM70
Performance time: 2:30-5:00 minutes

Send an email to taylorsdanceclub@gmail.com by the 14th of August with your crew name and each crew member's name, MyKad/NRIC number, school/college (if applicable) and the proof of age for your crew.

Dance Arena is among the biggest dance competitions in Malaysia, and is organised by the Taylor's Dance Club! This event promotes a healthy lifestyle through dancing among teens and young adults. It's going to be pretty awesome. And, dancers, this is the time for you to showcase your talent and your time to shine!

Upcoming: Hip Hop Mad 2 Max

HELP University College is hosting an event, the Hip Hop Mad 2 Max on the 10th of July in Euphoria by M.O.S.: a club party with a hip hop dance competition!

Only 10 crews will be able to compete in the hip hop dance competition; registration is on a first come first serve basis, so sign up quick! It's only RM 100 per crew (2-6 people) to enter, and each crew has a maximum of 7 minutes for their performance.

Prizes?

Champion Prize: RM 1000

Runner Up Prize: RM 500

In the final round, the top 2 crews picked by the judges will battle it out on the dance floor and the winner will be crowned champion! The other crew will take home the runner up prize.

The dance competition will be from 6-10 pm, but everyone can stay and enjoy the music and dance floor until 3 am! The music for the night will be hip hop and R&B with a touch of house.

The cover charge is RM 40 with a wristband for you guys as a pass to stay after the event. It'll also give you discounts on drinks! 35% off soft drinks and juice, 25% off beer, and 20% off Chivas.

Highlights: Caprice will be the emcee for the event, and there will be a dance performance by D8Second and a beat box performance by Kim S'ng from Sunway University College!

Taylor's Got Talent was a talent show organised by Taylor's University College! The finals were on the 8th of May; there were only 20 contestants left after elimination during the auditions, all of whom were pretty talented. (:

Absinthe performed during the break before the final 5 contestants were announced. Two weeks of practice paid off and for all of 5 minutes, the crew dominated the stage! B-boying, followed by popping, and hip hop. Then the contestants reclaimed the stage for themselves.

The whole event was fun and entertaining, and we managed to see how talented Taylor's students really are! Plus, that night, the crowd was really hyped up, cheering for whoever was on stage and for their friends, which just added to the atmosphere.

The first DanceFest of the year was a blast!

The event kicked off with a performance by Apple Juice, a crew from Sunway College. The performance had the crowd hyped up and cheering. The dance floor opened, but not many people started dancing then. However, as time went on, more and more people went onto the dance floor and when it was packed with people, the lights and music really gave it a 'club' feel.

Still too early for the dance floor?

About halfway through, Elecoldxhot (ECX) performed! Honestly, this is the first time I've seen them. I've only heard of them before, never seen. The response from the crowd was fantastic. A few times times, their screams and cheers even overwhelmed the music (which was really really loud)!

All throughout the event, there were competitions, one of which the participants had to follow dance moves of the host, Ching Yu, and another to find the sexiest dancer. Of course, there was also limbo! Some people really have talent for limbo-ing, in terms of both strength and flexibility. I tried too, but wasn't very successful though.

The winner managed to get under the bar without touching it when it was only about a foot and a half off the ground! Wow. I wished I had my camera for this, but the Photography Club was already there, snapping away.

In between the competitions, the dance floor was open and people were battling each other. But it became more competitive when the official cypher started. Everyone cheered for their friends, and those who were really good. When it narrowed down to the 5 finalists, competition was tough because all of them were really good dancers.

But there could only be one winner, and it was a breakdancer from Taylor's College Subang: Gosu! When the cypher was over, free ice-creams were given out to everyone, and people continued dancing. As it became late, people started drifting off and event came to an end.

All in all, it was really fun, and an awesome party. I, for one, enjoyed myself, and I hope you did too! This was the first DanceFest, but not the last, so if you missed this one, you can come for the others!

Taylor's College is organizing DanceFest on Friday, 24th April. What is DanceFest? Well, come check it out because it's going to be an awesome party that you don't want to miss! There will be cyphers (freestyle dance battles), performances, competitions, games, prizes, and lucky draws!

Of course there will also be a DJ and a dance floor, because this is, after all, a DanceFest!

But don't think that the event is for dancers only. We welcome all fun-loving individuals (and groups. Groups are good) regardless of age, sex, race or dancing ability. Just view it as a really awesome mixer party! Organized by the club with the biggest party animals on campus, so you know we know what we're doing.

And even better, no bands performing that night!

Not that we have anything against bands in general (sorry musician friends), but the Taylor's hall and sound systems weren't really built to carry the sounds of people singing (just ask anyone who went for last month's SAM Fiesta).

And, following this month's theme, Urban Limbo, you can try your skills at limbo too! How low can you go? Why don't you find out on Friday? :D

The DanceFest will be an epic celebration of freedom and movement featuring live performances from the nation's hottest crews, including Elecoldxhot (ECX), who was the winner of Astro Battlegrounds, and Rokustep, first runner-up of the nation-wide Battle of the Year!

After about a month's practice, the crew (then known only as March Crew or Crew B) showed off what they'd been preparing at the Taylor's Model Hunt. A little contemporary, popping, hip hop, breakdance, and something new - stomping!

Before the performance, everyone was rushing around, getting changed and having a few more last minute practices. When we were waiting backstage, it was pretty crowded, what with the models and make-up people moving about. The atmosphere was a 'lil tense, seeing as the models, plus the performers were just waiting to get out there and do their thing. The girls seemed a 'lil stressed out, but most of the guys were just waiting patiently and one or two even wished us good luck! Thank you. :)

Some of us were really nervous, and the stage was smaller than we estimated, but still the performance went smoothly. The crowd wasn't big that night though, only about a 100+ people showed up. When the models went up, we cheered for them too, since we had nothing to do waiting back there. There were plenty of camera flashes going off in the hall, with all the Photography Club members going around taking pictures of everything (like the dance pictures you are about to see).

When we were up on the stage, honestly, I couldn't see much of the audience, with all the glare from the lights, but I could still make out the audience, the judges, and the red carpet - like some Hollywood red carpet.

WHAT happens when a latin dancer and a street dancer falls for the same ballerina?

Imagine this: You’ve just lost the girl of your life to some dude. As a dancer, what would you do? Why, you form a crew and battle your heart out of course. (: And if you're THAT dude, what would you do in return? DUH! you put on your BEST show.

That was the story line of the dance performance by Crew A, a.k.a. Ichirei crew for SAM Fiesta and GreenEvolution held on the 5th and 6th of March.

SAM Fiesta was the first major party of the year with a spasmodic dance floor. The hottest event this calender month was for a good cause too. The profits from the events will be donated to the Palestinian victims in Gaza. That's my kind of party, where you can have fun AND help out the less fortunate.

GreenEvolution was a joint charity effort by INTI college and WWF. It was the first off-campus performance of the year. The hypnotic performance put up by the young juniors attracted a constant flow of 'ooohs' and 'aaahs' from the crowd.

A month's worth of practice and those countless dreams about the dance moves instead of a certain character from Twilight or Transformers finally paid off. The crowd was definitely electrified and we're sure that quite a number of Palestinian and Pandas benefited from the events.

The last part of the performance was when everyone came together for a hip hop routine. Psst: It's their first time performing for some of the dancers. No experience required. (:

C18 and C20 now belong to the Dance Club from 3pm onwards every day (thank you Mr Wong), so starting Monday (16/03/09) all dance classes will be held in everyone's favorite joined classrooms.

FAQ: Classes

Some of the questions posted here have not been answered yet. We will get answers for these questions soon. You will see a bold red [Updated] notice next to the blog title when we do.

Q: When do the classes actually start?

A: Hip Hop starts on Monday the 16th of March, as the 9th is a public holiday. Popping starts on Tuesday the 10th, and B-Boying starts on Wednesday the 11th. Latin classes for the month have already started. As for Ballroom classes...

Q: What's going on with your Ballroom classes? How do I get in on that?

A: We currently have one Ballroom class, from 4-5pm on Thursday, the class unfortunately is not open to newcomers. However, we have received a lot of requests for a new class, and so we hope to start one by April. Anyone interested should let us know as soon as possible, as places for the class are limited to 10 guys and 10 girls.

Q: What will the Hip Hop/Popping/B-Boy classes be like?

A: These three classes will cover the foundations of street dancing. Each class will begin by teaching basic movement and techniques, and eventually move on to choreography and routines.

Q: Will newcomers be able to join the Hip Hop/Popping/B-Boy classes after a few months?

A: To be updated.

Q: Who is a better instructor, Kido or Joey?

A: No comment. They're both probably better than you though.

Q: What are Latin classes like?

A: Latin classes teach the basics of a different style of Latin every month. So far our members have done Samba in January and Cha Cha in February. This month's lessons will cover Rock and Roll.

Q: What happens when we run out of styles (for Latin class)?

A: To be updated.

Q: What are Ballroom classes like?

A: To be updated.

Q: What about payment?

A: Starting in April, the club will be implementing a new payment system.

Classes will start during the first week of every month. During the last week of the previous month, students wishing to join the class may submit the class fee for the coming month. This will place their names on the class list. Those who do not have their names on the list or who do not bring payment at the door may be denied entry into the class.

For students who are already part of the class, payment may be made during the last two weeks of the previous month to reserve their place in the class.

Q: I don't get it.

A: Example: Biscuit is a student in both Hip Hop and Popping classes in September.

In October, he wants to continue Popping and take up Latin. So in the third (second last) week of September, he pays for Popping class in October to guarantee himself a place in the class. He does not pay for Hip Hop. In the last week of September, he pays for Latin class in October so he can join the class when it starts.

However, at the last minute he decides he wants to continue Hip Hop so he comes for the first Hip Hop class in October, bringing his payment so he can enter the class.

Q: Will class fees be raised in the future?

A: Yes. The club needs facilities, unfortunately, and to get those facilities we need funds. Currently, 100% of the fees that you pay go to the instructor. Starting in April, the club plans to raise fees for each class by RM5. This money will go towards the purchase of mirrors (and stuff).

Q: I can't pay that much.

A: If you feel that way, talk to us directly. We won't force you to pay something you can't afford. Not that we think RM5 is a lot of money, but if we think you really can't spare the cash we'll let you off.

Q: Will you post the club's accounts on the blog?

A: Maybe, but we'll have to think about that.

Q: Where will the classes be held?

A: We will notify you on an individual basis. We don't really have a fixed venue for the classes yet (this is why we need your financial support).

Upcoming: Urban Dance Festival 09

Shoutout to all street dance enthusiasts: there's going to be an Urban Dance Festival in Cineleisure, The Curve this weekend.

This event is organized by SMASH Studio, the Selayang and Rawang MCA, Cineleisure Damansara and Skuad Rakan Muda Pahang and will feature some of the best crews in the country, from as far away as Penang, Johor and Perak.

Announcement: Ballroom Classes

There were a lot of you, who, during the last general meeting, expressed interest in ballroom classes. Still not sure if you guys were serious, but whatever the people say they want, the people get.

With that in mind, the Dance Club is pleased to announce our first ballroom class will be held this Thursday, 12/02/09 from 4-5pm in the classrooms C18 and C20.

Sort of like that, but maybe not quite.

The classes will be taught by the same man who brought Latin to Taylor's, Mr William Lor, who is not just extremely qualified but - as anyone who's ever been for one of his classes here will tell you - is a fantastic teacher with a great sense of humor.

Yes.

Class fees will be RM45 per month, the same as our Latin classes - and we can assure you that this is a price you will find nowhere else (okay, maybe in the other colleges he teaches, but you can't really go there anyway).

Don't try to deny it. We all know that you watched Enchanted, and that you loved it.

However, while we've managed to cram almost fifty people into a Latin class before, the ballroom styles of Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and the like will definitely take more space, and as such we will only be taking 20 people into a class - 10 lucky guys and 10 lucky girls, so please, send in your registrations right away.

Announcement: Committee Meeting (Updated)

The first committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, 11/02/09 at from 4.00pm to 5.00pm.

For those of you who end at 3.00pm or earlier:

We will be at the cafeteria from 3.15pm to 3.45pm (coming to see us early will give us a chance to get to know you and also leave a good impression). We will head to the meeting room at 3.45pm.

For those of you who end at 4.00pm:

We will leave a notice with the location of the meeting on the cafeteria notice board (after 3.45pm duh). If you are unable to locate the notice, you can contact us at 016-955 4388 to check.

Announcement: New Latin Class

Good news!

Effective 13/02/09, there will be two Latin classes every Friday from 3-4pm and 4-5pm. Also, until further notice, all classes will be held in the classrooms C18 and C20.

Please note the following.

Everyone:

Registration for both classes is now open. Kindly send us an email with the subject Latin Classes to let us know which slot you would prefer. Include your name and contact number. Priority will be given to the members who attended last week's class, and spots will be saved for those who have already paid (note: the fourteen members who already chose the 4-5pm slot need not register again).
The maximum number of people per class is 30.
Please bring the payment of RM45 when you come for the first class of any month.
Four classes will be held every month. You are advised not to miss more than one class a month, so you do not fall too far behind the other students; however, you may contact us if you feel you need help catching up on missed lessons - our team will be glad to help you whenever convenient.
Bringing a partner is not necessary but often good, as the girls usually outnumber the guys by a fair amount.

Choosing a time slot:

3-4pm:

+ Can go home early.
- Have to leave as soon as the 4-5pm class begins.
- Best to come early, as time spent arranging tables and paying fees and stuff cannot be replaced (see above).

4-5pm:

+ Can finish late if class starts late or instructor has more to teach.
+ Can hang around after class to practice, dance or learn from other students.
- Have to go home late (though five isn't really that late).

We personally recommend the 4-5pm slot. Just having fun dancing outside of class can be pretty sweet. But whatever your decision, let us know soon and we'll see you all on Friday!

Hey everyone! :) Just a friendly, short (very short) reminder!

Latin classes are ON this Friday (06/02/09), at 3.30pm - 4.30pm as per usual! We will be learning a new dance this week, somewhere along the lines of... Chacha, Jive and the likes, as we have completed Samba! :)

Everyone will get a say in what dance we're to learn next, so dont fret! :)

By the way, please do remember to bring the payment of RM45 for our instructor, Mr William Lor! To make collecting the fees much more convenient, it is to be paid at the door. :)

Update: Music Club Performance

We are really sorry to those of you who did not get the chance to sign up earlier, but registration for the performance will be closed at midnight tonight (Monday, 02/02/2009).

We have a lot of performers.

Don't worry though. There'll be a ton of other chances for you to perform this year.

Also for performers who have already registered (you should have received an SMS about this) there will be a briefing and practice tomorrow (Tuesday, 03/02/09) from 3:00pm to whenever.

We will meet up in the cafeteria.

Even if you have something on (for example, the SAM Student Council's meeting at 3.30pm), please come just for a couple of minutes. We're going to be sorting you into groups.

If you really can't make it, please let us know (016-955 4388) so we can meet you during your break or something.

Upcoming: General Meeting

Details of the year's first general meeting are as follows:

Date: 5th of February (next Thursday)
Venue: LT2 (you know, since between this and last year there are about four hundred of you)
Time: 3.30pm to 5.00pm

Please try to make it on time, but if you have to be late due to class or things do come anyway.

We have pretty big things to discuss. Just a rough idea of the day's agenda:

Dance Arena '09
Usually our biggest project of the year, was pretty successful in '08 but many things could have been better handled. If you want a post on the committee, this is the project you need to sign up for.

The first event in Taylor's (to the best of our knowledge) with concert series stage, sound and lighting.

Classes
Decide on the classes and instructors you want to see brought to Taylor's, and help set up a timetable that's convenient to you.

Latin class on the 16th of January, where we had about 32 students in a single class.

Studio Time
So far this year the Dance Club hasn't been given much time with the studio in the ECA Center - okay, we haven't been given any time at all - which is pretty ridiculous when you consider it's a dance studio in the first place. The issue will be explained in length during the meeting but we are going to need your support to make a change here so please, please come for the meeting.

Only you can help us save our tiny, barely-adequate dance studio.

Crews
Performing/competing in a crew is a big part of being a dancer - members of the Dance Club last year performed and competed in more than thirty events throughout the year. We hope that all of you will get the chance to share this awesome experience.

If you ever wanted to perform in Sunway Lagoon's Surf Beach...

I would just like to add that it's really important that you come for this meeting since the Dance Club doesn't meet regularly (though that might change this year) - if you can't come for the meeting but are still interested in club issues please drop us an email and get in touch so you won't be left out.

Upcoming: Music Club Performance

The first performance by the Dance Club's next generation will take place on Friday, the 20th of February.

The Music Club has asked us for a performance and they've given us about twenty minutes (though I seriously doubt we'll be using all of that) so we have a lot of freedom with this one. All we know so far is that it's a concert of some sort, it's going to be in the MPH and it's going to be at night.

ECA Big Day

We did pretty well on the Big Day!

If you couldn't already tell from the previous post.

Thank you all once again for your support. The Dance Club booth was packed the day through and I think we were pretty unprepared for all the people who showed up looking to register or asking for information.

The booth reaches critical mass!

If anyone failed to get a satisfactory response from our representatives, we do apologize. In our defense, we spent a lot more time preparing the performances and I think those turned out alright.

We did better than the club last January, at any rate. For those of you who weren't around to have seen it: it was a single, unmanned table, a stack of forms and a pen.

We also exceeded our initial target of two hundred registrations! We had anticipated a fall in membership this year due to the opening of the Taylor's Sri Hartamas campus (which has slashed the number of incoming A-Levels students by half we think) but we are pleased to report that the final number of the day stands tall at three hundred and fifty five registrations, which I think is staggering by any standards.

We're not exactly sure how we're going to meet your demands for classes, especially with the studio currently booked every single day of the week (we are so going to change that) but it's a challenge we're looking forward to so that every student on campus is provided with equal opportunity for self-expression.

We did try to talk to everyone (obviously we failed).

I've already got plans for streamlining our booth at the next ECA Day, though it'll be up to the next committee to implement them. Laptops for registration, so we won't have to key in another three hundred lines of information, and because some of you have really... misleading handwriting.

And also signs. I think we needed more signs.

Update: Latin Class Venue for 23/01/09

Most of you should have gotten the email already, but the venue for this week's class is confirmed as the MPH. Please remember to bring the payment of RM45. Class will be from 3:30 to 5:00PM, but as usual you can stay later for a little freestyle. We actually have the right music now!

Ahem.

A note to those of you who want to bring friends this week: you might want to wait until February since we're almost done with the Samba right now. In fact, we encourage all members, and those interested in the classes, to take note of the following:

The class will learn a new style of dance every month.
Hence, we encourage you to attend classes from the beginning of each month.
However, if you find you have to miss some of the classes, or just can't wait to start dancing (we can totally understand this, no worries), just let us know and any one of us be glad to bring you up to speed on the current lesson - whenever it's convenient for you.

Update: Latin Classes: Change of Venue

Sorry for the last-minute information you guys, but we were just informed that the MPH is booked *again*, this time for some urban survival skills thing, so we're going to have the class in C17 and C19, the same as last week.

The timing of the class (3:15pm for newcomers until 5:00pm for everyone) remains the same.

We apologize for any inconveniences caused - we'll do our best to confirm the venue earlier in the week from now on.

News: Latin Classes Begin

As the lucky dance club members who spent over an hour today swaying to infectious samba beats will testify, Latin classes have begun and they look totally sweet.

Here is what we can tell you so far.

This afternoon's class was held in the joined classrooms C17 and C19, which will be our venue whenever the MPH is unavailable - hopefully not too often, as judging by today's session the two rooms can only put up with about twelve couples. Next week's class will be held in the MPH.

The session today was scheduled from 3:30 to 4:30, but in fact went on quite a bit longer - we were enjoying ourselves so much we lost track of time. Newcomers to next week's class should show up early at 3:15 to to catch up with what the others learned so far.

Our next two classes on the 16th and 23rd of January will also be extended half an hour to 5:00; to accommodate the members who won't be around by the 30th. Not sure yet about whether we'll be having a class on the 30th, but we'll probably have an informal session even if there isn't.

We would love to post some pictures of the class, but we didn't manage to get our hands on a camera in time.

An important note: today's class had seventeen students, and next week at least another six will be joining us. Anyone interested in the class should let us know as soon as possible - ECA day is still a couple of weeks away. so just hit us with the following details:

Announcement: Latin Classes & Dance Community

To all members of the Taylor's University College Dance Club (and the general, dance-loving public):

Our sincerest apologies for the lack of activity coming from our end... Our new committee has been rather busy tying up administrative loose ends and, well, getting through our exams.

November isn't exactly the best time of year for us to be making this announcement, but we'd like to think we're targeting those of you who will still be in Taylor's college next year. Of course, if you happen to be a graduating student and are still interested in attending any of the following, we would be equally glad to have you.

First off, we would like to inform everyone that Latin classes (Latin classes! Yay!) will be starting soon (as soon as we get enough of you to sign up, so act fast)!

For the Latin classes, only a small fee of RM45 a month will be charged! :) You can ask anyone who knows about Latin lessons and they will assure you this is a steal.

This is Latin. For reals you guys.

Do note that this is an exceptionally good bargain because the instructor in question, Mr William Lor, is a highly trained professional teacher who has not only won many competitions but has bred many competitive dancers who have gone on to become champions as well.

His full list of credentials is probably longer than your university application, but suffice to say he's been the South East Asia Professional Latin Champion for four years running, and he's a main choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia (you can see his name on the Wikipedia page).

So do let us know if you're interested so we can put your names down! :) We definitely wouldn't want the studio to be overcrowded, but if we get enough responses we could push to have classes in grand style in the MPH.

The name 'annual general meeting' is a little misleading, as this would actually be the second time this year we're having a general meeting, but the first was a long time ago in the first quarter of the year and members of the club - as well as our newer members - might be a little lost on the subject of what the club is actually doing.

On the agenda for this Friday's AGM (tentatively):

Selection of new board members
Discussion of dance classes and upcoming competitions
Planning of future events

Do attend if possible. This Friday, the 26th of September, 1.30PM to 3.30PM at Lecture Theatre 3. Tell your friends.

Finally, just a heads up to anyone interested: we might try to form a couple of crews on the day itself, after the meeting. So keep that in mind.

Reminder: Dance Arena: Prohibited

As our event grows in scope, we imagine your excitement is mounting too. So just in case you forgot, here's a reminder: all forms of alcohol, cigarettes (cigars and other smoke-related products too, wise guy) and drugs are strictly forbidden on campus grounds.

Violators will be ejected from the premises and barred from re-entry. Participants carrying these prohibited items will be disqualified.

No it is not okay if you light up to destress before your turn.

A quick heads up: we have three kinds of security, and one of them's the cops.

As you can see from the poster, in addition to the earlier Parkson Gift Vouchers, tickets for the Dance Arena now come with a chance to attend another smash event - organized by Ministry of Sound's Euphoria and featuring DJ Jungle Jerry - the same night at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel - meaning you can party all night.

That's right! The Taylor's Dance Arena now has a very exclusive afterparty... which a lucky 400 guests will be given a chance to attend.

If you needed another reason to get your tickets right away... this is it.

Just a reminder:

You can purchase the tickets at our Dance Arena booth near the Taylor's University College guardhouse, which is going to be running from 11 to 1 from Tuesday to Friday this week.

So, after a disproportionate amount of delays - due largely to issues beyond our control - the Taylor's Open Dance Arena is finally going public!

Now if you see this poster around your school/college/general circle of awareness, you know why.

Also, our tickets are now for sale!

Our apologies for the paranoia. We don't need people duplicating these.

Early bird arrivals will now receive a Parkson Gift Voucher for exclusive brands at Parkson Pavilion... you heard it first here! Just think about all the money that voucher could save you on being fabulous.

Reminder: Dance Arena: Registration

Just a heads up: our mega-event the Dance Arena takes place next Friday, the 15th of August from about 6 to 12PM at the Taylor's Subang Jaya Car Park.

To those of you who have yet to submit your registration forms, please do so right away. We'll need time to process your application and the original deadline was supposed to be... tomorrow. You know. Friday.

But seeing as how we're missing submissions from a few crews that we know are participating, we might just extend it a little. Like say, a few more days.

So yeah. Registration is still open. Tell your friends.

In case you didn't see it before... This is your registration form.

Compose an email with the following details:

Name of crew
FULL NAMES of crew members and IC numbers
Contactable email address and handphone number.
Name of campus (if representing college).
Additional notes about your performance and sound/lighting
requirements (optional).
Information about your entourage, inclusive of but not limited

This is what you need to know about the Dance Club's latest project - The Open Dance Arena.

It's going to be on Friday, the 15th of August from 6.30pm until... late.

It's going to be in the car park of the Taylor's Subang Jaya Main Campus.

It's going to be pretty damn awesome.

Also... It's going an ALCOHOL-FREE, DRUG-FREE and NON-SMOKING event (and yes we are super serious about this).

The exact amount up for grabs is yet to be confirmed - we're getting new sponsors every day and so our cash cow keeps growing - but right now we can promise you a total of cold, hard cash - at least RM3,500.

The winners will be required to perform for the Sloggi Art for Humanity event on the 23rd August 2008 but this is more of a major publicity than an obligation.

Participants, you are encouraged to bring your entourage along - tickets cost RM15 (pre-event) each or RM20 (door sales) and sales can be arranged through email. Just send an email to the taylorsdanceclub@gmail.com with the subject header Dance Arena Tix telling us how many tickets you would like and which college you're from.

You can also purchase them directly from our ECA Center - located opposite the Taylor's Main Campus in Subang Jaya.

Just a few of the rules and regulations:

Participant age limit: 16-23 years
Performance time limit: 7 minutes
Registration fee: RM70 for a group performance and RM30 for a solo performance (go ahead, we dare you)
We the committee reserve the right to make changes to any of the rules and regulations without prior notice.
We the committee reserve the right to disqualify participants and bar audience members at any time if we found anyone breaking the rules and regulations of the event.
We the committee are not responsible for anything - unless you have a really awesome time, then yeah, we will be responsible for that.
Do note that you can mix crew members from different colleges/high schools (you don't even have to be in a college, as long as you fall within the age group). We don't care about stuff like that. Just come strut your stuffs!

As for your registration form, well, initially we were going to create an actual form which you could download and print. But since we want you to email it in anyway, where's the sense in that?

Hence, this is your registration form.

Dance Club Membership: How To

There seem to be a few of you who want to know how to join the Dance Club!

Okay, well, on the 29th of July, the college will be having its bi-annual ECA Day. ECA Day is a chance for students to check out the various clubs and extracurricular activities Taylor's has to offer.

The Dance Club will definitely be setting up a booth for all you potential members out there, so be sure to check us out. Just... follow the loud music and the cheers of the crowd.

Ahem.

Someone asked about the types of dance we do. Well, currently the Dance Club offers Salsa, Street and B-Boy (Breakdance) classes. We had a Belly Dance class earlier in the year but it kind of disappeared. Of course, all styles of dance are welcome in the club - personally I really want to learn Contemporary and Ballet (yes I'm a guy).

Also, about the eating thing. Yes, we do recognize eating as a talent. However, if you wish to enter the competition as such you will have to provide your own props (ie food).

Someone else posed the question WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT.

Well, I don't know. What do you think?

Sneak Preview: August Competition

Buzz: The biggest event on campus this year is going to be the Dance Club's massive open dance competition, an annual club tradition now in its third year.

Details about the yet-to-be-named competition have been kept under tight wraps, but the word on the street is that this event is not going to take place in the MPH as has been custom for college functions; but is instead spilling out to overrun the entire car park.

Rumors that the event has gained sponsorship from industry giants Naza, Channel V and Celcom have not been confirmed by the club.

However, the competition in previous years has gained nationwide recognition, with over 20 crews and 1000 guests in attendance.

So... Nothing concrete yet, but the event is definitely something to keep and eye out for as August draws closer...

Upcoming: Talent Arena

You've probably seen this poster around campus. Chances are that's why you're here. Well, the All-Taylor's Talent Arena is the first event organized by the Dance Club this academic year. A little late, perhaps, but we have a pretty heavy lineup for you in the second half of 2008, so keep watching this spot for updates.

Anyway, the All-Taylor's Talent Arena is a chance for Taylor's University College students from different courses and campuses to come together and showcase their most attention-grabbing and awe-inspiring skills in a competition for the hearts and minds of Taylor's students everywhere, as well as the title of Taylor's Most Talented.

Now, although this is a Dance Club event, don't make the mistake of thinking this competition's about dancing and nothing else. This is a talent competition! We do expect a fair share of dancers among the contestants, but also singers, magicians, instrumentalists, comedians and so forth.

So if you think you can wow the audience by

Singing
Dancing
Beatboxing
Storytelling
Holding your breath
Burping the alphabet
Playing the harmonica
Making yourself disappear
Doing vector calculus in your head
Catching a flaming bowling ball with your face

We will provide only a minimum of equipment (a microphone and basic sound system) so overly-elaborate acts are discouraged. Contestants may, of course, bring along their own props and stage crew, but a maximum time slot of only ten minutes is allocated to each performance, preparation time included.

Registration costs a flat rate of RM5. Just hand the money together with your printed registration form to the ECA Office by the 11th of July - that's the second Friday of the month.

The winner will be decided by both the judges' scores and an audience vote. As such, contestants are encouraged to bring their supporters. Entry to the event costs only RM2. All audience members also get one voting slip upon paying for entry.
